Garden City shopping centre in Kampala In Uganda’s capital, Kampala, you can basically get everything you know from home. There are several large shopping centres in western style (e.g. Garden City Shopping Mall, Quality Hill Shopping Mall, Carrefour). The other cities also have larger supermarkets. In some cases you will even come across the same brands and products as on the shopping shelf at home.

The countless small local supermarkets are highly recommended, where you can buy regional products at much lower prices. You will find these shops in large numbers in all towns and villages.

In addition, Uganda’s countless stalls run by the local population tempt you with fresh fruit, vegetables, spices, nuts and much, much more … The huge selection and freshness, especially of tropical fruit, beats any supermarket at home! Pineapples, bananas, mangoes, papaya, oranges and much more are available in excellent quality for a few cents.

However, be careful with meat and fish, as the hygienic conditions often leave something to be desired.
