Giraffe in the north of UgandaThe third-largest national park in Uganda is Kidepo Park. It lies very remotely in the extreme north-east on the border with South Sudan and Kenya. The climate here is semi-arid and thus clearly different from the protected areas in the west and south-west. In the 1,442 km² large, semi-desert-like landscape the most widespread animal species are elephants, zebras, giraffes, buffalo and antelopes. But ostriches, leopards and even cheetahs can also be observed here. Add to this around 475 bird species and 86 mammal species. Two circular routes connect the wildlife areas with the camp for observing the animals.

You can reach this national park fastest from Kampala with a charter aircraft in a flight time of two hours. Travelling by car takes a total of 2 days. The approach by car via Gulu and Kitgum is now well established; the road is still rough in sections.

The accommodation options are not so numerous. Apoka Lodge, however, offers every comfort. There are also some campsites in the surrounding area. The best time to travel is during the dry season from December to April.
