Murchison Falls National Park is the largest national park in Uganda. Across almost 3,900 km² everything you associate with Africa awaits here: lions, leopards, buffaloes, elephants, hippos, hyenas and so much more. Around 76 mammal species and over 450 bird species live here in a breathtaking natural landscape.
The scenic highlight is provided by the Murchison Falls. Here the White Nile, already 50 metres wide, forces its way northwards through a rocky narrows only 6 metres wide, and falls in several stages 43 metres into the depths.
The park lies in the north-west of Uganda at the northern tip of Lake Albert. It is easy to reach by road from Kampala. Most of the route is tarmac, so you make good progress by car. If you are in a hurry, you can also charter an aircraft and fly to the nearby Pakuba airport.
The best times to travel lie outside the rainy season, that is from December to February and June/July. Nevertheless the park is accessible all year round. Accommodation is available too. You can either stay overnight directly in the park (camping and lodges) or put up at one of the numerous hotels in the nearby Masindi.
