Background

Travel and tourism remains one of the largest industries in the world. In 2011 alone, it accounted for around 9% of the global GDP, which exceeded $6 trillion, and created 255 million jobs—far more than in sectors such as automotive manufacturing, mining, and financial services combined.

Therefore, the travel and tourism industry will be a major driver of job creation and economic growth over the next decade. It is also expected to grow at approximately 4% per year, eventually contributing 10% to the global GDP. By 2022, it is projected that tourism will generate 328 million jobs, representing about 10% of all jobs worldwide.

Despite political upheavals in certain regions and global economic uncertainties, the sector remains a safe and stabilizing force; it generates prosperity and facilitates international trade and investment.

More and more people are realizing that Africa is, in many ways, a continent of the future. In terms of tourism, about 4% of global activities currently take place on this continent. This means Africa still lags far behind its potential due to its vast natural and wildlife resources as well as cultural assets. That’s why Rhimbo Tours & Travel Services (RTTS) operates within Africa’s “Action Plan,” whose main goal is to turn Africa into the top travel destination of the 21st century.

Currently, Rhimbo Tours & Travel Services is active in Uganda, Kenya, the Seychelles, and Tanzania.

Nature & Tourism

Due to its incredible natural diversity, a number of international travel guides such as “Lonely Planet,” “Birdlife International,” “Africa Bird Club,” and “National Geographic” have named Uganda the best or most preferred destination.

With 34 birdwatching regions and over 1,065 bird species, Uganda has recently been hailed as a top choice and a must-visit destination for birdwatchers. In fact, 10% of all bird species worldwide and 50% of African bird species can be found in Uganda.

This means that simply by visiting Uganda, a tourist can theoretically see half of all bird species found on the entire continent. In addition, half of the world’s mountain gorillas inhabit the Mgahinga and Bwindi National Parks. Other national parks include Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kidepo National Park, Mount Elgon National Park, Lake Mburo National Park, Kibale Forest National Park, and Semliki National Park.
