Town centre of Jinja, Uganda The greater part of Uganda’s population – around 69 % – lives in the countryside. Nevertheless there are many towns in Uganda with more than 10,000 inhabitants. All of them offer interesting insights into a particular kind of “Way of life” in Africa.

The largest cities are Kampala (around 1.8 million inhabitants), Arua (380,824), Jinja (292,386), Mbale (290,414) and Masaka (285,509). The best-known destinations remain Kampala, Jinja and Entebbe (81,160 inhabitants). You should plan a visit in any case. If you also go on a safari in one of the great national parks, you will pass through a few other towns as well. Our tip: always allow yourself a little extra time to experience Africa “live” in the towns.
