Alpha Rent-a-Car rents only flawless and imported vehicles, which are carefully checked before each rental. We offer you additional personal service, roadside assistance, insurance, additional drivers if needed and everything else you can expect from one of Uganda’s leading car rental companies.

Alpha Rent-a-Car is a subsidiary of Alpha & Beta Investments, which has been operating in Uganda since 2001 and works together with a travel partner (www.eastafricansafaris.net). We therefore offer you more than just a vehicle, but also safari planning and execution, bird watching, fishing tours, gorilla trekking, chimpanzee trekking, game safaris, white water rafting, conferences as well as flight reconfirmation for our passengers.

Our customer base consists of tourists and travel operators, cooperation partners, private individuals as individual drivers or groups and other travelers on business or luxury tours. We also work closely with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that carry out various charitable work throughout the country, as well as UN organizations in Uganda and several international embassies.

Vehicles

Alpha Rent-a-car offers the best 4×4 off-road vehicles in Uganda and East Africa that can handle all local road conditions – either as a self-drive or with a chauffeur. The vehicles are mainly imported from Japan and equipped with extras to meet additional local needs.

We offer Toyota Land Cruiser, Hilux double-cabin pickups, micro-buses and many other simple vehicles. Additionally, we offer Land Cruiser with roof tents as well as fully equipped 4×4 camping vehicles.

Our services go far beyond simple car rental. With our sister company, East African Safaris Ltd, we can organize a perfect safari vacation for you. For example, we also offer cross-border rentals, long-term rentals, experienced drivers, airport transfers, Kampala city tours and much more. Do not hesitate to request a quote for any of the above options. We also help customers with the purchase of gorilla permits as well as with the rental of camping equipment (tents, mattresses, cooking utensils, gas stove, cutlery).

Safety Tips

Kampala and Uganda are generally safe, both for walking and driving. Nevertheless, you should avoid evening walks on busy streets and in some parts of downtown Kampala. Such places include taxi parks, bus stations, Owino Market, Namirembe Road or Ben Kiwanuka Road.

As in other countries, you should carry valuables and large handbags securely on your person. Culturally appropriate clothing is also recommended.

Apart from northeastern Uganda (Karamoja), where there have been security issues due to the long civil war in the region, the rest of the country is quiet, stable and peaceful. However, we recommend that you consult with staff at your hotel if in doubt.

Questions & Answers

1. Is there a minimum rental period?
   No. You can rent a car from Alpha for just a few hours (usually airport transfers with a driver), or rentals can be arranged long-term for months or even years (usually for organizations and companies).
2. Can I rent a car to drive to other countries?
   In principle, yes. Please inquire directly with Alpha if you want to travel to other countries as well. We will apply for you – if possible – written permission (“cross border” permit) for the desired country.
3. What should I do in case of an accident?
   Please always call Alpha Rentals as soon as anything unusual happens, and also call the police and ask for roadside assistance.
4. How to drive in Kampala?
   We don’t really recommend driving in Kampala itself. The traffic is hectic, even for experienced Africa travelers. However, driving is possible elsewhere in the country and you shouldn’t be discouraged. At Alpha you can hire an additional driver for your stay in Kampala.
5. Where can I find a detailed map of Uganda’s roads?
   Alpha Rentals provides every customer with a complementary printed road map with detailed information on access roads to Kampala and Entebbe as well as the main roads of Uganda.
6. Can I use a GPS system?
   You are welcome to use your own GPS system or you can rent a vehicle with GPS. There may be fees for this.
7. How do I make a reservation for a vehicle?

8. How can I pay for the service? When do I have to pay?

   Yes, the following additional costs apply when paying with a credit card (based on the transaction amount):

• Mastercard: 5.8%
• American Express: 5.8%

Alpha Rent a car offers a huge selection of cars, mostly 4×4 off-road vehicles, with all insurance and, if desired, also with permission to cross borders into most East African countries such as Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan and Eastern Congo.

All vehicles can be rented with a driver or as a self-drive. The choice is entirely up to you, although we warmly recommend choosing one of our experienced drivers for Kampala city.
