Uganda – The Pearl of Africa – 14 Days

Day 1: Flight to Uganda

Jeep from Thürmer ReisenYou’ll travel by train to Frankfurt to catch a flight to Uganda late at night.

Day 2: Arrival in Entebbe

You’ll begin your descent into Entebbe in the morning. There, a driver from Thürmer Tours will already be waiting for you. He’ll take you safely to the camp in Kisube, right on Lake Victoria. Upon request, we can arrange an excursion to the Merchant Falls, a boat trip to Ngamba Island, or the Mabamva Wetlands before the official start of the safari. You’ll stay overnight in a hotel or campsite.

Day 3: Journey to Kibale National Park

You’ll be woken up for breakfast at 6:00 and then head toward Kampala. The usual chaotic city traffic stands in stark contrast to the rural life that begins just outside Kampala. In the evening, you’ll reach Kibale National Park and stay overnight in a hotel or campsite.

Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking

Safari camp from Thürmer ReisenTrekking to see wild chimpanzees that aren’t yet accustomed to humans starts from the Kanyanchu Tourist Center. Botanists, butterfly enthusiasts, and bird lovers will also find plenty to enjoy here (e.g., 335 bird species). After a picnic, you’ll continue to your next destination – Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s oldest park. Your overnight stay will be in Mweya, with views of Lake Edward and the Kazinga Channel. Stay overnight in a hotel or campsite.

Day 5: Wildlife viewing in Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast in the wild, you’ll embark on your first game drive. A guide from Thürmer Tours will explain and introduce you to the wonders of nature (Uganda kobs, waterbucks, Cape buffalo, elephants). The tour continues to the fishing village of Kasenyi on Lake George, where you’ll enjoy a boat trip on the Kazinga Channel in the afternoon (hippos, Nile crocodiles, crocodiles, roseate spoonbills, fish eagles, goliath herons, Uganda cormorants, various stork and heron species, leopards). Dinner and overnight stay will again be in Mweya.

Day 6: Chimpanzee trekking in Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, you’ll head to the Kyambura River and the steeply sloping Kyambura Gorge. You’ll meet the rangers at the Ranger Camp and then begin chimpanzee trekking through the rainforest. Other primates can also be spotted here, such as baboons or black-and-white colobus monkeys. During the dry season and with a bit of luck, you might also see elephants, buffalo, leopards, and lions along the riverbank – of course, you’ll always be protected by an armed ranger. In the evening, you’ll head to the Ishasha River Camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Lion spotting in Ishasha

Lion safaris with Thürmer ReisenAfter breakfast, you’ll visit Uganda’s famous tree-climbing lions. The afternoon is reserved for relaxing at the camp by the Ishasha River, before embarking on another game drive in the evening. Dinner and overnight stay will again be in a hotel or campsite.

Day 8: Journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, you’ll travel along the slopes of the Albertine Rift Valley through lush green rainforest to reach the last mountain gorillas in the world in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. After dinner, an early night’s rest is recommended, as the next day will be demanding. Stay overnight in a hotel or campsite.

Day 9: Gorilla trekking

Gorilla trekking with Thürmer ReisenGorilla trekking involves a hike up the mountains to reach the four habituated mountain gorilla groups and can take up to 8 hours. All your efforts will be forgotten once the mountain gorillas, led by the silverback, appear. Additionally, Bwindi’s extraordinary biodiversity will amaze you (90 mammal species – 11 of them primates, 23 bird species found nowhere else). Dinner and overnight stay will be in a hotel or campsite.

Day 10: Journey to Lake Bunyonyi

After breakfast, you’ll enjoy the breathtaking scenery on your way to Lake Bunyonyi. Your campsite for the night is located right on the lakeshore. Relaxation is planned for the evening. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel or campsite.

Day 11: Return journey to Kampala

After breakfast, you’ll embark on the 450 km journey back to Kampala and then to Lake Victoria. It will never get boring, as you’ll traverse all the diverse landscapes of beautiful Uganda once again. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel or campsite.

Day 12: Flight back to Germany

The day is at your disposal until departure. You can either relax at Kisube Camp by the lake or go shopping in Kampala. In the evening, you’ll fly back home.

On our safaris, we offer several optional extra excursions. You can download detailed descriptions as a PDF file:

U. C., 10.03.2010:

Dear Mr. Thürmer,
On behalf of my friends as well, I’d like to express my heartfelt thanks for the excellent preparation and organization of our Uganda/Rwanda trip.

We traveled with Davis, who, however, never revealed his surname or mobile number. Davis proved to be an excellent driver, able to anticipate every pothole and bump. He also turned out to be a great guide in the national parks. Above all, he was kind, intelligent, and utterly reliable.

Our support team in the Toyota Hiace also turned out to be a pleasant surprise. They made our stay at the campsites enjoyable; the cook, in particular, was truly outstanding. The trip went perfectly, aside from a flat tire and a faulty windshield wiper during a rainy day. Even for men accustomed to long-haul trips and foreign countries, it was impressive; the multitude of different experiences and impressions surprised us all three. The fact that we found ourselves in the Ruwenzori Mountains with our three tents at the center of a nearly 2-hour mountain storm, emerging from both the mountain trek and the gorilla trek soaked like sponges, greatly enhanced the experience value. Otherwise, there were no complications or personal inconveniences.

Overall, it was a truly extraordinary and especially lovely trip, for which we are grateful to you.

R. K., 25.08.2009

Dear Mr. Thürmer,
We’ve returned safely; the trip was great, and Pascal was a wonderful guide. Thank you very much!

P. O., 06.08.2008

Hello Mr. Thürmer,
Thank you so much for the sweet surprise I received yesterday: the timing, shipping method, and product selection were all top-notch 🙂

Brief feedback on the trip

  • Overall great, with a good price-performance ratio.
  • The guides did a great job and showed a lot of dedication and motivation.
  • Expectations were fully met; seeing the gorillas (especially in Rwanda) was sensational!
  • The flights could be improved (detour via Bujumbura).

David Elsenhof, 18.01.2006

I just wanted to give you a quick update on our Uganda trip!

We had an exciting and thrilling time in Uganda. Of course, we also got to see the gorillas after an impressive trek. Simply amazing! Thank you very much!
