Primate Safari, 7 Days, 6 Nights
Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport. Our drivers will pick you up and take you to Kampala. There, you’ll have dinner and stay overnight at a hotel of your choice or at Maranatha Guesthouse.
Day 2: Journey to Kibale National Park
We’ll travel along Uganda’s scenic western route at the foot of the famous Moon Mountains to Fort Portal. We’ll have lunch there. Once we reach Kibale National Park, we’ll take an evening walk through the forest. Then, we’ll have dinner and stay overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Walking with Primates
After breakfast, we’ll head back into the forest for the first half of the day. During a walk, we’ll explore the primate species that live here, such as red colobus monkeys, chimpanzees, grey-cheeked mangabeys, and many others.
The afternoon takes a different turn: we’ll visit a nearby village community. Here, you’ll learn a great deal about daily life and culture in a typical Ugandan village. These are experiences and memories that will stay with you for the rest of your life.
Day 4: Journey to Bwindi Forest National Park
Today, we’ll travel along the African Rift Valley towards Bwindi. On the way, we’ll stop in Ishasha to look for the famous tree-climbing lions. In the evening, we’ll arrive in Bwindi, the land of mountain gorillas. You’ll have time for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Gorilla Trekking
Together with our rangers, we’ll set off for gorilla trekking after breakfast. Since mountain gorillas move freely and are always in different locations, the jungle trek can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 7 hours. Along the misty paths, we’ll be accompanied by the sounds of over 300 different native bird species. When we encounter the gorillas, you’ll experience an unforgettable hour with these majestic creatures—it’s indescribable! Back at your lodge, you’ll enjoy a well-deserved dinner, exhausted but thrilled.
Day 6: Journey to the Capital City Kampala
The scenic journey to Kampala takes us through the mountainous regions of Kigezi and Ankole. The impressive Ankole cattle are a highlight of this region and very characteristic of Uganda. In the evening, we’ll arrive in Kampala. There, you’ll have dinner and stay overnight at Rest Kampala Hotel.
Day 7: Kampala
Until recently, we always visited the Kasubi Tombs, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, on this day. Unfortunately, due to a fire in March 2010, this attraction is currently closed. Depending on the progress of the reconstruction work, we’ll still visit this royal mausoleum of the Buganda Kingdom.
Additionally, you can visit various shops to pick up some souvenirs. Then, we’ll take you to try the local cuisine at a restaurant in Kampala—something you definitely shouldn’t miss; it’s simply delicious! After that, it’s off to the airport for your flight back home.
