Our Safaris
Three Days – Murchison Falls National Park

Uganda’s largest national park owes its name to the Murchison Falls, where the world’s longest river plunges 43 meters down through a rock cleft just 7 meters wide before flowing westward into Lake Albert. Located in the Albertine Rift system in northwestern Uganda, Murchison Falls National Park lies about 90 km from Masindi. The falls were named by explorer Sir Samuel Baker after Sir Roderick Murchison, President of the Royal Geographical Society.
The park comprises a mix of forests, wetlands, savannas, and tropical woodlands, serving as habitat for over 76 mammal species and more than 450 bird species. Large mammals found here include hippos, Rothschild’s giraffes, Cape buffalo, Uganda kobs, topis, and elephants.
The Nile at Murchison Falls is home to a variety of waterbirds, including the rare shoebill stork, and also hosts large populations of Nile crocodiles. The Kaniyo-Pabidi Forest is the habitat of primates, chimpanzees, and over 360 bird species.
In the lush grasslands north of the Nile, you’ll encounter elephants, buffalo, giraffes, and various antelope species during your safari, while the lion population continues to grow steadily. The Rabongo Forest in the southeast shelters chimpanzees and other rainforest animals.
The Nile itself hosts one of the densest populations of hippos and crocodiles in Africa. Therefore, a half-day trip to the waterfalls—passing by these animals—is practically a must-do. The tour lasts about 3 hours.
The most spectacular view of the waterfall can be enjoyed from the top, where you can witness the thundering Nile rushing through the narrow gorge. This spot can be reached either by car or on foot.
Below the Murchison Falls, the Nile offers exciting challenges for anglers, with a chance to catch a giant Nile perch (the record weight is 108 kg!). Fishing is restricted to specific areas. Since spots are limited, we recommend booking in advance. A range of boats for sport fishing can be rented upon prior reservation.
The dry season, and thus the best time to visit, typically runs from December to mid-February and June/July. The rainy season spans from April to November. Daytime temperatures average around 29°C. Nevertheless, Murchison Falls National Park is worth visiting at any time of year.
Three-Day, Two-Night Safari
Day 1: Pickup from your hotel in Kampala and a 6-hour journey northwest to Murchison Falls National Park. Stop for a light lunch at one of the hotels in Masindi town. After lunch, continue to the magnificent Murchison Falls, where you’ll marvel at the breathtaking beauty of the mighty Nile. As the world’s longest river, the Nile winds through the park and plunges 43 meters down through a narrow cleft. You’ll see this spectacular sight from above. Overnight stay at Sambiya River Lodge, Paraa Lodge, or Chobe Lodge.
Day 2: After an early breakfast, set off on a half-day game drive along the northern bank of the Nile, accompanied by an experienced ranger. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, embark on a boat trip on the Nile to observe hippos, crocodiles, and various bird species up close. You’ll find plenty of great photo opportunities. Then head back to the lodge for a “sundowner” drink and a sumptuous dinner prepared by world-class chefs.
Relax for the rest of the evening—perhaps enjoy some cultural entertainment, or simply sit back, unwind, and listen to the sounds of untouched nature.
Overnight stay at Sambiya River Lodge, Paraa Lodge, or Chobe Lodge.
Day 3: Enjoy breakfast early in the morning, then transfer to Budongo Forest for a half-day trek to explore primates on foot: black-and-white colobus monkeys, red monkeys, baboons, and chimpanzees. After your hike, enjoy a light lunch before beginning the journey back to Kampala. Arrival in Kampala will be in the evening.
* Please contact AGE Safaris if you’re interested in this or other safaris. We’ll gladly tailor any itinerary to suit your specific interests.
3 Days – Chimpanzee Trekking, Expedition to Kibale

Kibale National Park in southwestern Uganda is renowned for offering optimal opportunities to observe chimpanzees as they play and interact. Other primates found here include red colobus monkeys, monkeys, red monkeys, galagos, and various other species. This park boasts the greatest diversity and largest primate populations in all of East Africa.
The Kibale Forest is also known for its high density of forest elephants; however, they are very rarely seen. These elusive forest elephants are smaller and hairier than their savanna counterparts and move seasonally through the accessible parts of the park.
3 Days, 2 Nights – Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale Forest National Park
Day 1: Depart from Kampala through the tropical forests of Mubende, with lunch at one of the hotels in Fort Portal. After lunch, you may opt to visit the “Amabere ga nyina Mwiru” (literally translated as “breasts of Nyina Mwiru”). This popular tourist attraction is a limestone cave that resembles nursing breasts. You can also see the king’s palace in Kabalore within Fort Portal town. Dinner and overnight stay at Kibale Forest Camp or Kibale Primate Lodge (safari tents).
Day 2: After an early morning breakfast, you’ll embark on a chimpanzee trekking expedition guided by an experienced ranger. You’ll encounter 13 primate species and many other animal species. Typically, chimpanzee trekking takes 3–4 hours. Return to the hotel for lunch. Optionally, you can visit the crater lakes in Semuliki National Park, which are about an hour’s drive from Kibale. Alternatively, you can explore the Bigodi Wetland, where you’ll see a wide variety of bird species and experience breathtaking scenery. Please contact AGE Safaris if you’re interested in this or other safaris. We’ll gladly tailor any itinerary to suit your specific interests.
3-day Gorilla Trekking Safari to Bwindi
Bwindi originally means “impenetrable.” This name suits Bwindi perfectly. The forest covers 327 square kilometers, and its dense undergrowth of vines and other vegetation makes it a nearly impenetrable rainforest. It’s a true African jungle and one of the richest ecosystems in Africa. The diversity of species is a special attraction of the park, which provides habitat for around 120 mammal species, including mountain gorillas, colobus monkeys, chimpanzees, 346 bird species, 202 butterfly species, 163 tree species, 100 fern species, 27 frog species, chameleons, and geckos. Bwindi National Park is home to more than half of all the world’s mountain gorillas.
Gorilla trekking is an especially captivating and unforgettable experience that more than compensates for the sometimes arduous trek through the forest. Gorilla trekking is Uganda’s main attraction. Therefore, it’s advisable to book well in advance to secure permits for your desired dates.
3-day Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi National Park
Day 1: Depart from Kampala toward southwestern Uganda’s Bwindi National Park with your driver or tour guide. Cross the equator, where we’ll stop for a photo session and souvenirs. Then, stop in Mbarara town for lunch. Enjoy an early dinner and overnight stay at Silver Back Lodge, Gorilla Safari Lodge, Buhoma Lodge, Gorilla Forest Camp, or Clouds Lodge.
Day 2: Have breakfast early in the morning, and after a brief briefing by the guides, set off through the dense rainforest undergrowth. Meeting these calmest, rarest, and most endangered gorillas is a fascinating experience. Visitors are allowed to spend one hour with the gorillas before returning to the lodge. Gorilla trekking typically takes 3–8 hours. During the free afternoon, you can visit a nearby community to learn about various aspects of Ugandan life, culture, and lifestyle. Overnight stay at Silver Back Lodge, Gorilla Safari Lodge, Buhoma Lodge, Gorilla Forest Camp, or Clouds Lodge.
Day 3: After breakfast, drive back to Kampala. Stop again in Mbarara town for lunch. Arrive in Kampala late in the evening. Dinner and overnight stay in Kampala.

Expedition to the Rwenzori Mountains
The Rwenzori Mountains are also called the “Moon Mountains” after Ptolemy, the Alexandrian geographer from 150 AD, who originally thought this was the source of the Nile because he saw snow-capped mountains deep in the heart of Africa here for the first time. Over the centuries, this myth faded away. In 1889, Henry Stanley mapped these mountains, whose local name is “Rwenjura,” meaning “rainmaker.” The range rises over 4,000 meters above the Albertine Rift and is the highest mountain range in East Africa. It formed over 3 million years ago. It spans approximately 120 km in length and 65 km in width. It consists of six massifs separated by deep gorges: Mount Stanley (5,109 m), Mount Speke (4,890 m), Mount Baker (4,843 m), Mount Emin (4,798 m), Mount Gessi (4,715 m), and Mount Luigi di Savoia (4,627 m). Mount Stanley is the largest and has several peaks, with Margherita Peak being the highest point. The rock is metamorphic, and the mountains likely formed due to the folding of tectonic plates. They are extremely humid and often shrouded in clouds.
The Rwenzori Mountains are known for their unique vegetation, ranging from tropical rainforests to alpine meadows and snow-covered areas. There are forest elephants and several primate species, such as white and blue colobus monkeys, as well as many endemic bird species. Some plant species include giant thistles, giant lobelias, and six-meter-tall heather. The border of the Congo runs right through the mountains.
From Kampala, the journey covers 375 to 450 km, depending on the chosen route. AGE Safaris can offer you the following trekking options in the mountains:
Option 1: An eight-day trek to Mount Baker
This trek takes you to the summit of Mount Baker, which is about 4,800 meters high. Here, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of Margherita and Alexandra Peaks. This trek is relatively easy and suitable for everyone with reasonable fitness and no fear of heights.

Here, you’ll enjoy stunning views all the way to Kasese (2,160 meters). On the second day of the trek, you’ll reach Mutinda at mid-altitude, where there’s a small rock shelter called “Chengora Rock Shelter.” There, you’ll find waterfalls and extraordinary flora.
