Tourism & Travel
Uganda has so far remained untouched by the great streams of tourists, which is what makes it so attractive today for a safari in Africa through the national parks.
Still very well known as a travel destination in the 1960s, the dictatorships under Obote and Amin meant the end of tourism. With Museveni’s government, however, the country experienced calm, stability and an economic upswing once again, so that travel and tourism are now gradually picking up again.
In 2025, Uganda counted around 1.64 million international visitors (+19.7% compared with 2024). Tourism revenue reached around USD 1.62 billion in 2025; by 2030 the government is aiming for USD 5 billion. The country is marketed today by the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB). Not to be compared with the crowds of visitors in Kenya, this region is not so overcrowded.
The largest share of visitors are British, followed by Americans, Indians and Germans. Hotels of all categories already exist throughout the country.
Tourism marketing / national parks in Africa
Tourism is indeed promoted by the state, but nowhere near to the extent that would match the beauty of the country and the opportunities for travellers. The largest, state-funded organisation is called “Tourism Uganda”. It handles tourism marketing in general and also represents the country at international tourism fairs.
