Discover Uganda with Atlas African Safaris Uganda (19 days)

Day 1: Kampala

On the first day of your safari in Uganda you arrive at the Entebbe International Airport where you will be met by a representative who will transfer you to your Hotel in Kampala. Overnight stay at Cassia Lodge or Hotel Triangle.

Day 2: Jinja, Source of the Nile, Bujagali Falls

This day you will visit the Source of the Nile from Lake Victoria, the monument of Gandhi, then proceed to the ‘Bujagali Falls‘, the spectacular rapids on the river Nile a few kilometres from the source. Afternoon drive to Mbale for dinner and overnight at Mbale Resort Hotel.

Day 3: Sipi Falls

After you break fast you will go for a nature walk to the Sipi Falls, 4 spectacular waterfalls on the river Sipi which originates from Mount Elgon. The starting point is the ‘Crow‘s Nest‘, a camping and lodging site which organizes community projects and training of local guides.

You will see the caves and plantations of coffee, matooke and sugar cane. Ensure that you have packed a lunch for the day. In the evening return to Jinja for dinner and overnight at Jinja Nile Resort or King fisher Hotel.

Day 4: Murchison Falls and visit the top of the falls

Morning breakfast followed and take a panoramic drive northwest through the famous Luwero Triangle. Stop over at Masindi Hotel for lunch. Proceed to the Murchison Falls National Park, the largest protected area in Uganda, whose name is derived from the falls on the Victoria Nile, which divides the Park into 2 sectors. Relax a bit at a situated site on the top of the spectacular falls, where you can see the Nile‘s perfected beauty, and marvel as it compresses and squeezes itself from over one kilometre wide through an 8 metre canyon. The 43 metre drop of the falls crates a thunderous roar and a beautiful rainbow in a plume of spray- the best thing to ever happen to the Nile. Enjoy dinner and overnight at the Paraa Safari Lodge or Red Chilli.

Day 5: Morning game drive and afternoon launch cruise

Boat trip on Kazinga-channel with Atlas Safaris UgandaAfter an early morning cup of tea on your safari in Uganda, embark on a game drive to the Northern bank where your guide will help you spot Elephant, Lion, Cape Buffalo, Rothschild‘s Giraffe, Hartebeest, Waterbuck, Oribi, Bushbuck, Spotted Hyena and Leopard. Return to the lodge for breakfast. Take a break and relax by the swimming pool.

After lunch you will safari upstream by boat to the calm Victoria Nile and the base of the falls within close proximity to the ‘Devil‘s Cauldron‘. There you can marvel at toothsome Hippo and Crocodile and over the 17 kilometre stretch you may see Elephant, Waterbuck and Uganda Kob. This is also a habitat of many bird species, including Goliath Herons, Egyptian Geese, Pelican Bee-eater, Kingfishers, Hornbill, Cormorants and the rare Shoebill Stork. After taking photos at the Murchison Falls you will return for dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 6: Murchison falls, Kibale

This morning your drive will take you to Southwest via the Albertine Escarpment of the Western Rift Valley after breakfast. You drive through Hoima, the town of the Bunyoro Kingdom, passing through verdant countryside, tea plantations and traditional homesteads. You reach the colourful and pretty town of Fort Portal, the capital of the Tooro Kingdom, in the shadow of the fabled ‘Mountains of the Moon‘, the Rwenzori. Dinner and overnight at the Ndali Safari Lodge/ primates Lodge.

Day 7: Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale National Park

You will enjoy breakfast before heading to the Forest for primate viewing. The activity starts at 8 o‘clock in the morning. A half day search for Chimpanzees and other primates. The guides will provide detailed explanation of not only the primates, but all the forest‘s flora and fauna, ensuring that your walk is both informative and exciting.

After lunch take a nature walk to Bigodi Swamp eco tourism site is amazing and the tour will encounter beautiful flora and fauna. Dinner and overnight at Ndali Safari Lodge/primates lodge.

Day 8: Queen Elizabeth national park

An early breakfast before proceeding to the Queen Elizabeth National Park. the tour follows the mystical Rwenzori Mountain Range for most of the journey.

A game drive en route may be rewarded with a view of Waterbuck, Elephant, Leopard, Buffalo, Spotted Hyena and a variety of antelope species. Arrive early for lunch at Mweya Safari Lodge with its wonderful location on top of Mweya peninsula. Enjoy the unique 2 hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel into Lake Edward. This trip passes through possibly the highest concentration of Hippos and many animals can be seen drinking at the water‘s edge.

This launch cruise offers an excellent opportunity for photography, bird watching and game viewing. The prolific bird life is colourful and stupendous with well over 550 resident species. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge/ Jacana lodge or Mweya Hostel.

Day 9: Morning game drive and afternoon visit to crater lake region

Embark on an early morning game drive along Kasenyi tracks and Queens Mile in the Park and expects to see Lion, Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Warthog, Spotted Hyena, Mongoose, Waterbuck, Kob and Leopard, plus a lot of small animals and birds. You will then reach the Lake George. Drive back to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon drive to the splendid Crater Lake‘s region for some sight seeing. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge/ Jacana lodge or Mweya Hostel.

Day 10: Bwindi gorilla forest through Ishasha sector for the tree climbing lions

Atlas Safaris Uganda: Gorilla-TrekkingYou will fast take breakfast then proceed to the Ishasha sector of the Park via Maramagambo Forest. Have a midday game drive in search of the rare tree climbing Lion which you can see only in this region of Uganda.

Here lives a population of Lions who enjoy resting in the fig trees when the day is warm. The landscape is an open savannah with a variety of acacia trees. Lunch will be served at the Savannah Hotel. Proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for dinner and overnight at Buhoma Homestead/Gorilla Resort / Buhoma community bandas.

Day 11: Gorilla trekking

On day this of your safari in Uganda the tour leaves early for entry into the Gorilla sanctuary at Bwindi Forest. This rainforest is spectacular as it offers a dramatic, heavily forested and dense landscape criss crossed by numerous animals‘ trails, allowing access for tourists. This Park is best known for the fascinating Mountain Gorillas, where the time taken and terrain varies according to the movements of these marvelous primates. The thrill of spending time with and observing the gorillas is a rare, moving, awesome and exciting experience. The Gorillas are shy and peaceful animals and it is an unforgettable experience to watch and photograph them as they interact with each other. Dinner and overnight at Buhoma Homestead.

Day 12: Bwindi Gorilla Park – Rwanda.

After breakfast leave for Rwanda. Stroll around the Lodge, or simply relax at your lodge, taking in the panoramic sunset over the volcanoes. Overnight at Gorilla Nest Lodge/ Hotel Chez Lando / Mhavura lodge /Kinigi guest house

Day 13: Mountain gorilla safari

After early breakfast to give you energy for the Gorilla safari experience, go gorilla tracking in Parc National des Volcans. Tracking the gorillas through thick vegetation and creepers the on the slopes of the Virungas is a magical experience. You will need physical fitness and a pair of study boots for the experience. Spend some time with the Gorillas and return to your lodge for lunch. To shorten the distance from Rwanda to Uganda you will drive to Kabale on this day. Overnight at Arcadia cottages or Bunyonyi overland camp.

Day 14: Kabale culture tour and boat ride

The tour will take you on a scenic journey to Kabale through the beautiful terrain of rolling hills to an area referred to as the ‘Switzerland of Africa‘. Stop over at the Bakiga Museum in Kabale to discover the culture of the people living in the area.

Lunch at Arcadia Cottages, with a unique and amazing panoramic view of the lake Bunyonyi, the deepest in Uganda. Enjoy an afternoon boat ride on the lake to various islands for bird viewing and sight seeing. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 15: Kabale Lake Mburo

Enjoy breakfast before driving to Lake Mburo National Park, the smallest wetland in Uganda. Lunch at Mbarara. Afternoon game drive in search for beautiful Impalas, Zebras, Cape Buffalos, Eland, Oribi and Topi. Along the game drive many visitors enjoy a boat trip on Lake Mburo. The Park is a very good opportunity for bird watchers who will enjoy more than 250 species of bird found here, including Papyrus Gonolek, Brown-faced lapwings, Carruther‘s cisticolas, the extraordinary White winged Warbler and Bare-faced Go-away bird. Dinner at the Lake Mantana Tented Camp or Rwonyo camp.

Day 16: Ssese Island

After breakfast drive to Entebbe to board the ferry boat which will take you to Ssese Islands, an archipelago of 84 islands on Victoria Lake. Enjoy the navigation on the lake, which looks like an immense and peaceful sea. You reach the beautiful beach of Lutoboka, on Bugala Island for dinner and overnight at Ssese Palm Beach Resort or Mirembe Resort.

Day 17: Whole day at the beach

Gardens in KampalaSpend the day relaxing at the beach. You will be surprised by such a pleasant atmosphere. Optional activities include sport fishing or boat ride to explore the other islands and interact with the local people on the Islands. Full board at Ssese Palm Beach or Mirembe Resort.

Day 18: Return on the main land for a city tour around Kampala

After breakfast board the ferry boat to return to Entebbe. Spend the day at leisure and for shopping in Kampala. A city tour of the capital town can be arranged to see the most relevant cultural and traditional sites of Buganda. Dinner and overnight at cCassia lodge or Africana hotel.

Day 19: Transfer to Entebbe International Air port for your flight back home.

After 19 days you will leave Uganda, but we are sure, that you will come back again.

Primates & Wildlife Safaris with Atlas African Safaris Uganda (12 days)

Day 1: Drive to Murchison falls from Kampala

In the morning after breakfast, you will be picked from your Hotel in Kampala and then transfer to Murchison Falls National Park. Visit the Nakasongora Rhino farm and have a view of the rhinos. Proceed to Masindi and make a stop for lunch in Masindi town. Then proceed luxury d to park and visit the fascinating top of Murchison falls. Dinner and overnight at luxury Paraa Safari Lodge / or Red Chilli Camp.

Day 2: Game viewing and launch cruise along the Nile

Rhinos in UgandaWake up in the morning and have a morning game drive adventure and view some lions, leopard, giraffe, elephant, buffalo and hyenas. Return for lunch and in the afternoon, you will take an afternoon boat cruise on river Nile up to bottom of the falls seeing giraffe, lion, elephant, schools of hippos and many bird species like the broad shoe bill stork. Dinner and overnight at luxury Paraa Safari Lodge / or Red Chilli Camp.

Day 3: Drive through the Albertine Rift via Fort portal for Kibale

After breakfast start off from Murchison Falls National Park for Fort portal. Heading Southwest wards through the Albertine rift, this journey takes you through beautiful scenic area characterized by escarpments of the western arm of the Great East African Rift Valley. On reaching the colourful and beautiful Fort Portal town with views or the Rwenzori mountains referred to as the Mountains of the Moon, Check in at Ndali Lodge / Primates Lodge/ Rwenzori View Guest House for your dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Morning chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest

This day you will wake up early fro your early morning cup of tea. Then continue to Kanyanchu Tourists centre for briefing and make some payments before you go to the park. Proceed to the park and search for chimpanzees. Return for lunch and then after go for a village walk to Bigodi Swamp Eco site sanctuary for more primate and bird watching. Dinner and overnight at Ndali Lodge / Primates Lodge/ Rwenzori View Guest House for your dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Queen Elizabeth National Park

Wake up early morning and have breakfast then go for a morning game drive before you proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge/Jacana safari Lodge / Institute Hostel.

Day 6: Wildlife Tours in Queen Elizabeth National Park

You will have a morning game drive; have a chance to see the animals before they return to their hideouts. Return for lunch and in the afternoon take a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel looking for variety of game and bird watching. Evening will be at Leisure. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge/Jacana safari Lodge/ Institute Hostel.

Day 7: Chimpanzee and Primate watching

Chimp trekking in UgandaFollowing breakfast, you will go for chimpanzee tracking in Kyambura gorge depending on the chimpanzee permits available. After the game drive, you will continue to Bwindi Forest National Park. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Forest camp/ Gorilla Resort lodge/Kitandara Tented camp/ Buhoma Homestead or Buhoma Community Bandas.

Day 8: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Primates Forest

Early morning following breakfast, you will go for gorilla tracking in the forest. Tracking takes 2 - 8 hours depending on the movement of these humble apes. You will return for lunch and have the afternoon relaxing. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Forest camp/ Gorilla Resort lodge/Kitandara Tented camp/ Buhoma Homestead or Buhoma Community Bandas.

Day 9: Lake Bunyonyi

After breakfast proceed to Lake Bunyonyi at Acadia Cottages or Heritage Lodge or Overland Camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Bird watching at Lake Bunyonyi

In the morning after breakfast, carry out a boat ride on Lake Bunyonyi and go to visit communities. The rest of the day will be for leisure. Dinner and overnight at Acadia Cottages or Heritage Lodge or Overland Camp for overnight.

Day 11: Lake Mburo and its wildlife

Following breakfast early morning; you will drive to Lake Mburo National park. You will get there in the afternoon and take an afternoon boat ride on Lake Mburo looking for variety of bird species and game. Overnight at Mantana Tented camp or Mihingo Luxury lodge or Rwonyo Camp Bandas.

Day 12: Lake Mburo to Kampala

After breakfast you will have a game drive looking for variety of wild life like zebras, buffalo, hyena etc. Check out and drive to Kampala with a stopover at the Equator an Mpambirwe drum makers for photo graphs. Drive direct to the Air port for your flight back home.
