The age structure is very different compared to rich industrialized nations, especially with regard to the age distribution and growth (see also : Uganda in statistics).

By far the biggest age group are children between 0-14 years of age (50.2 %), which results in an average age of 14.9 years. The birth rate is above 3.5 % and every woman has 6-7 children on average.

Related to this are the typical problems peasant societies have to face, namely the splitting up of land ownership through inheritance. The land passed on becomes so small, that it can not provide for the family. One reason for the high poverty rate of above 30%.
